Alex Kratena, formerly of Artesian (World’s Best Bar winner four years on the trot) and TÁ TÁ Eatery are opening all-day bar and restaurant Tayer + Elementary on Old Street in the summer. Yes that means the Iberico pork katsu sandwich is making a comeback.
With a mix of Japanese and Scandi vibes, the venue will be split in two. The all-day Elementary will serve up bottomless coffee and light lunches in the daytime, with a seasonal food and cocktail menu, featuring drinks on draught, in the evening.
Tayēr will be more experimental, with a daily changing menu of drinks. Alex will be working with mixologist Monica Berg, who was behind Himok in Oslo, and the bar will be using lots of exclusively made spirits and drinks – they’re already working with the likes of Empirical Spirits in Copenhagen, Northumberland’s Hepple Gin, Partisan Brewery in Bermondsey and Jarr Kombucha on batches – so you can bet that these are going to be some impressive cocktails.
TÁ TÁ Eatery, run by Zijun Meng and Ana Gonçalves, will be in charge of the food and we’re expecting the menu to reflect the Portuguese-Chinese style of cooking they’ve showcased at their other venues.
Opens Sat 1st June 2019
152 Old Street, London, EC1V 9BJ
